Core States’ structural engineers performed advanced work for the project on a tight timeframe–TD Bank would be fined $10,000 by their landlord if they didn’t move in on time. Doing selective demolition first, our structural team designed a frame to support the new vault within the existing historic system–cinder topping slab (a form of concrete used at the turn of the century for fireproofing steel to protect terracotta). Working with certain historic parameters carefully to not impact the terracotta slab, our structural team designed a system within the existing system–it is invisible to those entering the space. New loads are supported while the historical aesthetics were preserved, and also taken into account is the ability to access system within the restrictive space–it can be easily altered in the future if needed.
